New engine in honda civic...Is it worth the hastle?

I live in a nasty area and park my car on a busy street. Its a 98 honda civic lx. I can afford 350z/g35/rx7.... I park my car on the street and my civic gets banged up from people parallel parking incorrectly. So a new car isn't exactly what I want right now, until I find my own place. I was looking about putting in a civic SI or a prelude engine in my car. So is an engine swap the way to go? What prices am I looking at? I know a couple people who just work on their cars for fun so I might have some connections when it comes to getting everything installed. Not looking for rice rocket bashing just honest answers. Thanks.

I guess it all depends on what you want to do with it. If your car runs well, I'd just keep the engine until you can get a real sportscar.
I would say that swapping an enginge or your only mode of transportation is not a good idea for a few reasons:
- Your car will be unuseable for a while, during the swap
- Things are bound to go wrong or will need adjusting, making your car unuseable for a while

3. drops value a lot from mod.
4. just sell it and get a si. a new engine dosent mean youll have the susupension or interior amenities that come with the prelude or si. if you have 2 cars and you arent worried about harder matinence and low price in sale, get it but it takes a week if everything goes right. probably longer. not pratical if you have only 1 car.

Motor swap in a Honda Civic = ricer. Sorry, did I offend your front wheel drive import that wishes it was a sports car sensibilities? Get a real car.

If you want an honest answer, just keep your reliable car and move out on your own to a nicer area. That shouldn't be too tough if you can honestly afford a g35.

K20A would easily run you at least 6k plus custom mount kit, etc.

H22 would run under 2k and the mounts are more easily available. For your purposes, save the 4k+ and get the H22. Can you do the work yourself? If not expect to easily pay at least 5-6k for the swap.

I should add that after owning a swapped car just be sure you know what you're getting yourself into. I had a hell of a time finding a buyer for mine.

I'm going to wait about 3 more years before i buy a house or car. I just wanted to spend a little to keep me satisfied with what i have. I don't want the insurance of a more expensive car either. Oh well my slow car will do for now.
