New Enermax PSU = no go

Just got a EG565P-VE FMA 535W for a new upgrade with an Abit KN8 & all it would do is just tap the fans enough to start them spinning , then they would quickly stop. After that nothing until I shut off PSU switch for a minute or so then it would do same. The 5vsb LED on board would light. After much yada-yada I pluged up an old trusty Enlight & went right to BIOS & Windoze. I cant rember which pins to jump to fire up the unit to check for output. I noticed on the 20-pin that a lead is missing compared to the MB manual, the Enlight & a PCP&C. I's the #20 (3rd lead up from bottom on the clip (inside) side, 5th if you count from the 24-pin, it has a 4-pin add on) which from what I can tell should be a white -5v lead but it's empty. No sign of a white wire in the harness. Am I missing something or is it?

The -5v rail was dropped from the ATX spec at rev2.0, so most new PSU's don't have it or it's corresponding pin in the ATX connector.

Hi & thanks for the reply. Does that mean it's not needed? The Abit diagram & the Enermax don't quite seem to match up . I'm doing a side by side now. This unit should be compatable right? How do I turn it on with nothing connected?

Jumper the green wire to any black with something metal (paperclip?) and it should fire right up.

Green is a signal, so you're not going to shock yourself or anything.

Thats a newer board so it shouldn't need or likely even be able to sense the -5v rail, I don't see why the Enermax wouldn't work.

Thanks, Do I leave it there or just a temporary short?

You leave it. If Power_On (Green) is shorted, the PSU stays on. When Power_On is open, it's off.

Did you plug in the Molex at the bottom of the board? Did you also take care of the +12V 4-pin CPU power connector?

Otherwise...did you reset the CMOS jumper? I know that when I first got my Abit KN8 Ultra board, the CMOS jumper was on reset and it wouldn't POST....just spin up the fans.

Thanks Bud & Rally Yes, checked all that about a dozen times. Also tried a known good cord from another PSU. I did reset CMOS but it won't even spin them up, it just kind of gives them a quick shot & that's it.

vanvock, it might be quicker/easyer to just PM ENERMAXPM (product manager).

He doesn't post often but does check his PMs, decent guy and can provide an RMA#.
Be nice and they might cross ship. Let us know how he responds. 😉
