I got this e-mail this morning:

<<Dear eBay User:

We have updated several of our servers to provide you with a faster, more efficient service. However, as a result, we need you to verify your eBay account. This is done to assure that no one else has access to your account or your private account information.

To verify your account, please visit our eBay Verification Page

You will have 48 hours to verify your account, at which point you will be unable to log into your account. None of your data, such as items you are currently the winning bidder on, will be lost, but will be inaccessible until you have verified your account.

Thank you again, and sorry for any inconvience this may have caused.

It is a complete fraud - this is not from eBay!! They ask for your PayPal information and credit card info too, so don't be an idiot like I was and actually submit your information. I had to change all of my passwords and cancel my credit card, and according to a thread I found buried on one of eBay's forums, I can look forward to lots of porn and spam in my inbox in the near future.

I shouldn't be allowed on the computer without copious amounts of caffeine. And yes, I know I was stupid, stupid, stupid. 🙁

Oh well, at least you caught yourself. Everyone lets their guard down once in a while. Now you know to be more careful. Thanks for the heads up!🙂

This is me, bending over and inviting you to kiss my butt if you're laughing at me.
Heh, and this is punishment???🙂

Sorry to hear you got burned.🙁

ouch sorry to hear about your troubles

there is to many scams going on anymore wanting your information........so they can use it to rip you off

What was the originating email address? Just out of curiosity did you call those numbers for "tech" support?

"This is me, bending over and inviting you to kiss my butt if you're laughing at me."

Pics?

I feel so dirty now.

Age old advice, never ever give out your password or credit card info in reply to an e-mail.

Uhh... did the info submit page not have anything suspicious on it... like a non-ebay.com URL ?!

No worries about the credit thing if you got burned already... You're protected by the Govt. on unfair billings and such... It's a shame that people are that dishonest these days...I'd hate to see what my grandkids might see one day.

Somehow I don't think eBay's customer service phone number is somewhere in Nova Scotia but the FAX is somewhere in New Hampshire...
