This isn't the first system I've built, but it is the first time that a boxed, retail CPU has arrived with obvious scuff-marks on the heatspreader.

The CPU appears to be in its original Intel box, with the secure "Intel Factory Sealed" stickers still intact.

Is this concerning?

Cheers.

Blade - I'll soon know. Given that it's Halloween here, I've been entertaining my 3 year old.

It was more of a preemptive question, because I could clearly see the scuffs even though it was in a sealed box. I was just a little curious if it was a sign of a returned/resold CPU.

Thanks for the response, however--you've eased my mind a bit.

My E2140 heatsink looked like someone ran coarse sandpaper over the middle. It cools just fine, though. 60c load at 2.8ghz overclock.
