I switched my ISP last week to AllTel, and the first day I had my new address, I started getting spammed and have been every day since. The sad part is that I haven't given my new address to anyone. I haven't used it for anything. The only thing that I can figure is that my ISP sold me out. Anyone else think so, or have any other ideas?

It's also possible that someone had the same address before, and it had been released when they switched ISP's. Does it come specifically to you, or is it the "undisclosed recipients" variety? If the latter, they could be blind spamming the entire ISP.

it happened to my uncle.. 3 days after setting a new email at earthlink... he just sent one email to our family saying this is his new email..and he got spam.. funny part he doesnt check often.. .. sometimes months apart.. and he still has tonnes of spam.
I finally turned on "spaminator" for him.

Well if it's John, Joe, Steve, Mike, Dave, Mark, Rick, etc. (common names), they basically SPAM to every name they can think of, and hope that it gets through if there is a Joe@isp.com.

In other words, what Russ said.

Despam your addy like this: grossoTRASH@onebox.com (Take out trash to respond). Spam bots are everywhere on the internet, they browse web pages, newsgoups, etc and gather email addresses, then SPAM you through mass emailing!
