The last DirectX 9 update mustnt have been more than 6 weeks ago.

Does DirectX 10 ever get updated? :)

I've been looking for a redist version of the August update to no avail so far, anyone sees any around?

You can also get DX9.0C from legit sites like here at FileHippo.

Negative, all the games I've played thus far look the same. I know they say "don't fix it unless it's broken" but this is pretty much harmless.

DirectX includes security and performance updates, along with many new features across all technologies, which can be accessed by applications using the DirectX APIs.

And since most games are DirectX 9, its all good :)

Since I'm new to this Vista thing (new comp) I assume it comes with DX10.
So...what about DX9? do I need to install it, or is DX10 a complete replacement that includes everything?
I've "heard" things and I'd like to be sure. :)
Vista of course automatically updates itself and this OEM version came with SP1.

DX9 is XP
DX10 is Vista

Edit: Wait, I'm confused now. How can this update be for Vista as well if it's DX9.0c related?

Edit2: Found the answer to my own question, here

Yes it does... I reinstalled Bioshock yesterday and the game would not launch in Dx10 mode. I did a little digging, thinking it was a Steam issue. And found this TechArp post. It seems installing any Dx9 derivative does in fact damage Dx10.

Bioshock force installed Dx9c when it installs, killing itself in the process.

43st, that is obviously a bug in some older redistributable package(s), likely caused by redists that are older than the first Vista-compatible redist, yet Vista allows those to be installed. The problem was even fixed by installing the latest (Vista compatible) redist and there is no separate versions of redist for DX9 and DX10 like the TechArp post seems to imply.

Anyhow, I have always wondered why DX redists are not in Windows or Microsoft Update sites, even under recommended or optional software.

All my games are working fine in Vista x64,it updates the DX9 part of DX10 in Vista, read the requirements its for Vista as well as XP,Microsoft would of not listed Vista if it broke anything.

FYI I have been updating my DX9c in Vista since Jan 07,I have yet to break anything including Bioshock.

I used the DirectX web update utility in an attempt to fix the issue, with a no go. When I installed the November 2007 build everything worked. So the web update utility, which grabs the latest version, is still a problem I believe.

I don't think this is a big deal, it's just something to be aware of if you're playing Dx10 titles.

I normally download my DX9.0c version from Filehippo, extract the file and run setup and all done,I have been playing DX10 games today like Hellgate:London still with no issues in Vista x64.

I never use DirectX web update utility.
I'm sure the problem with DX9.0c and Vista is using those older unsupported versions (pre Vista),ie ones that come with those old games that are always out of date.

Stick with recent ones and you should have no issues.
