New DVD-RW and DVD-ROM

My old DVD-ROM drive has finally given up the ghost and needs replacing. I also figured now was as good a time as any to grab a DVD-RW to replace my old CD-RW. I've been looking at the NEC ND3540 16x16 DVD±RW for the RW and the Plextor PX-130A as my DVD-ROM. Any one else have any suggestions on the drives? Also i need suggestions for the media to buy as i understand not all DVDs are created equal..

I would recommend the NEC for a DVD-R drive. You could probably use that as your only optical drive. I think there's a way to unlock the ripping speed through a firmware patch. For media, I would recommend. Fuji, Verbatim (MCC), TY, and Ritek.

I've thought about going single drive but it's convenient to be able to copy from drive to drive and it's only an extra £20 so its not a big deal.
