I just finished watching it and I have to say that I love it. Granted nothing is going to be as good as the book, but I have to give them credited so far, Its good.
I was pretty impressed how close it was to the book, especially considering it's a TV production. They kind of glossed over the fall of House Atriedes, and Paul met the Princess before he should have (I think), but otherwise it was pretty accurate.
I missed being able to hear what everybody was thinking like in the original movie. I can't say whether I like it yet though, think I will have to wait till I see the next part. I didn't really ever get into the books. I was only able to get through the first two before getting bored to death.
This is hardly 'far worse than the movie', the movie. This is sticking much closer to the book than the movie. And yes Sohcan, I think he meet the princess to soon also.
What new episodes? The series was over a while before they got it. Maybe you're referring to Crusade? If so then they don't have the rights to new eps OR reruns for that. Nothing to kill there, it's dead until further notice.
<< Ummmmm... Sci-Fi did kill off MST3k. It became their own production after Comedy Central dropped it. They also killed off Sliders, which they got from Fox (granted Sliders started to suck after Sci-Fi got it). >>
And I stand by my original statement. There are two companies involved here: one that produces the show (and owns it entirely) and the network that buys the rights to air it for x amount of time. The former can't kill a series, it can only break/not renew it's contract (in wich case it can be sold to another network). I've never heard of the two being the same company. Even if they have the same name, they're usually diffirent enities.
Well I watched it. Somehow I managed to stay with that drivel for the duration. Solid 4 out of 10. Whoever was responsible for casting should be shot -- lady Jessica reminded me of Counselor Troy from ST:NG. Whoever turned Paul Atreides into a modern-day american punk who needs a spanking every hour on the hour just to stay credible, needs to be shot. My God that kid can't even act. Take the whole scene on Caladan with the Rev. Mother as an example.
And even the special effects weren't perfect. Paul and Lady J. running in placeagainst a matte painting!!!???? Oh my somebody dropped the ball there. And in the Dune palace scene, the moon in the background should have moved given the scene length but didn't.
Anyway, for those who enjoyed this garbage great. I sure didn't. Ugh I hate seeing my favorite creative works go to hell like this.
