I searched, looks like this hasn't been covered before.
I set up 98SE on my new machine. Installed 2000 from within it. RAID drive with 4 partitions. 98 is on partition 1, FAT 32. 2000 is on partition 2, NTFS. Since 2000 was loaded from within 98, and since partition 1 is the original boot drive, 2000 has it's little fingers on it.
The problem: 98 works great once you get into it. When I do, I can restart right back into it as well. If I turn it off and start it up later, when I get right back into 98 at the dual boot option screen, it still launches fine. However, when I get into 2000 for a while, then the next time I want to get into 98 it defaults to safe mode. Over and over again. I attempt to hit f8 as fast as possible but it blows right past that option straight into safe mode. I shut down and restart and it's right back into safe mode again. It does this several times in a row, and eventually gets out of it into plain ol' 98. No apparent pattern for how long it takes, it just eventually does. From there it's fine, until I go to 2000 and back to 98 again, where the cycle repeats.
Can I force 98 to default into "normal mode", no matter what? Additionally, can I change how long the f8 option is available to me, so on those occasions where I do in fact want safe mode, I can have a few seconds to choose that option?
