My son just got a DSTT to replace his R4 and when I goto launch games it locks up. I did have it working for about 20min but then it stopped again. Googling found that this is a common problem and I formatted the card using FAT16 as suggested but it didn't help.

was the R4 busted? Why was it replaced? DSTT is bottom of the barrel in flash carts so it can be common for them to have little problems/defects. Try different versions of the firmware you put on the microsd or even try different microsd if you can. Also try removing and inserting microsd from the flashcart several times then doing the same to the flashcart and DS. Or maybe try adding only one rom and see if it helps.

The R4 Pro wasn't showing any of the cheats he had been using on his R4 that had a broken microSD spring. I thought the DSTT was the better of the two, oops. I have a 2GB card coming in that Im going to try too but I will see about deleting all but one of the rom's to see if htat fixes it.

well DSTT is not a bad card its just cheap made but thats why its the cheapest priced you can get. It gets the job done. I would try all the above though. I've got some acekard 2's and sometimes I have to take them out and put them back in to get the DS to detect them.

Well I tried the 2GB card that was in my son's R4 (put the DSTT firmware on it) and it is working perfectly fine. I might have a bad 4GB microSD...

some flash carts can be picky on microsd's. The 4gb might be fine.

True. Luckily I had it mostly as a spare since the one from the R4 works.

I would say either:

1: Your DSTT doesn't handle microsdhc cards
2: You had too many files in a single directory (I know some have limits of around 100)
3: Your particular 4gb microsdhc isn't compatible with the DSTT (unlikely, unless it isn't compatible with any sdhc card)

The DSTT did play off that 4GB card once. I tried deleting down to just 4 files in the directory but that didn't work either. The same number as the original were on the R4 and those worked fine and with it formatted as FAT32.
