New drive in old external firewire case?

It was slow to dawn on me (eventually I realized you can read the drive label through the clear part of the case ...), but the CDRW drive I bought a while back seems to be a bare drive in a case to create an external firewire set up. It's a nice Teac drive, and is holding up well, but I've been eyeing a DVDRW and was wondering if I can get a drive and swap it with the one that's in the case now. The original is a Firewire, external power, QPS Que!Fire! QPCDRW121032FEM with a Teac W512EB inside. Running Win2K.

I did do some searching and didn't see the answer.

you know you gotta give it a go 🙂 ..am thinking about doing the same with a USB 2.0 one ..pull the CD writer and put the DVD writer in..already know the USB 2.0 interface can do a harddrive swap from CD writer ..not as quick as dedicated IDE but using Nero.. no buffer underruns 🙂
