Love me some Hitachi. I have 3 of the 500GB drives between my systems...

What's the manufacture date between the two? If you have one made before the flood, I'd go that way.

I'd try to find some benchmarks on them each and put my O/S on whichever drive was faster. Backups on the other.

So I did not get an SSD but instead still have my SATA

Which Drive would be better to put my OS (cloning to new hard drives)

Hitachi 1 TB 7200 RPm 32mb Drive

or
Seagate 1.5 TB 7200 RPM drive

Still better to get a SSD for the OS drive, much better.
You sure you won't reconsider ?

WD makes hitachi now, in case that factors into your decision, but there isn't much difference speed wise between those two drives, at least nothing you would notice outside a benchmark.
Did I mention SSD for OS is better ? ;)

The Hitachi is pre- WD, were it me, I would go with the Hitachi and make it my system drive... and whatever program files would fit on it... 1TB is a lot of space. Make an image of the newly setup disk to one of the other disks and you have a viable backup system.
