doesn't sound too bad. i don't know if i'll be able to get into it like Awake, though. nothing since then has come close.

Yeah. To me, Images and Words is the best..although scenes from a memory isn't bad, but yeah, Awake is great.

Those previous CD's seemed to have one, overall, texture. AKA, I can tell Awake mix from IaW mix, but this new one seems to be very "varied" ala varium.

Yeah. I forgot to mention A change of seasons...one of my favorites.

Honestly, Octavarium, the cd, as a whole, reminds me, more than anything, of Change of Seasons. Dont get me wrong, Ive listened to IaW prolly a thousand times, as well as all their other efforts. Its like I study DT for my phd or something. But, the studying has had an amazing effect on my guitar skills.

I feel like I am soiling guitars in general when I try to play after listening to Petrucci. It's like there's no reason for me to even practice since I'll never be even 1/100 as good as him. Naw mean.

lol. Believe me techboy, I used to be like you, "studying DT" or whatever you want to call it. Then I got tired of listening to overly complex music that seemed to lack a point/emotion, same with the lyrics. Don't get me wrong, Id probably still see them in concert again if they came by, but I would actually prefer a G3 concert with petrucci over DT.

I can agree with that. DT has always seem to be like a "clinic" on cd for me. As a musician, Ive tried to apply to the technical things I've learned from DT to a spiritual/soulful expression that is unique to me. Sometimes I feel like I can't see the forest from the trees and I always feel like my ability to play soulfully needs to catch up to technical ability. I can shred all day, but thats just masturbating....... Using my ability to shred to keep a melodic flow that is soulful, thats another thing.

It's all right, not as good as SFAM. It doesn't really sound like them at times. I'm gonna have to listen to it a lot to really have it sink in.
