Dunno if anyone here plays, I think it's a pretty great game. They've cleaned it up quite a bit since initial release as well. They have some $2 DLC on Steam with 4 new outfits, and are also coming out with free DLC consisting of 2 new weapons and a new map.

Anyone else playing?

I paid the $2 this morning because I really appreciate Tripwire as a dev. Gonna play a bit tonight, see if I can revive the spark. :)

I played for a few hours last night, the game is a lot of fun, it might pull me away from L4D. I love the grindhouse look of it.

so what are some areas of the game that differs from L4D? and how is it better than L4D?

I've been thinking about grabbing the DLC, I'm having a blast playing this game.

minmanster: I wouldn't say its better than L4D, I just find it a nice change after playing L4D so much. Its different, for your not trying to go from location A to B, you just try to survive wave after wave of creatures on the same map. Sounds boring but it is a blast.

It's not better, it's just different. It's a more hardcore, deep experience with perks, leveling, and a weapon purchasing system similar to Counterstrike.

L4D is awesome, but it's definitely worth giving Killing Floor a few hours of your time to get a feel for what it's trying to do.

It's not a full game like L4D, it's essentially a really big mod with lots of content and a fantastically fun core concept, and it feels very much like a mod. However, it's a really really fun mod. There's an awesome thrill of being the last guy alive on your team, frantically running around trying to survive the last few zombies, while your teammates cheer you on.

Personally, I enjoy laughing maniacally while running through a massive zombie horde with my chainsaw while my teammates are cowering in a corner.

It's definitely worth the price. Get it if you can. :)

The games places you in one large map, and then spawns enemies in waves, and gives you an arrow to follow to the next weapon purchase area. The first wave is like 60-70, and then you get a small time-out to purchase weapons. The second wave has more specials and more commons, etc.. Then it ends on the 6th(?) wave which is boss + zombies.

The amount of zombies and waves depends on difficulty and server setting. Some run 10 rounds, some run 6, etc etc.

The concept is very simple - the game throws a set number of waves at you, increasing in difficulty. You might survive, you almost definitely won't if you try to go solo Rambo. After playing a few minutes you'll see that it's very different from L4D, though. It's grittier, harder, darker, and you feel a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment that I personally find lacking from L4D.

I believe there's a demo. Give it a shot, it grows on you real quickly. As a bonus, if you like it enough to purchase it, you'll be supporting the fantastic, customer-friendly dev team that made Red Orchestra.

I don't believe there's a demo, but if you have UT2K4, you can download the Killing Floor mod for it. It's not nearly as polished as the actual game, but it gives a good indication of what you'll be looking forward to.

You can get it here: http://www.moddb.com/mods/killing-floor

would you say the game is heavily dependent on communication like l4d? while it's all fun playing with voip, it'd be nice to not have to depend on communicating to get anywhere.

Ehhhh, not to the extent of L4d.

On Normal you're almost fine going solo if you're a badass, but occasionally (and almost always on Hard) the group will need to stick together in order to survive. You don't really need communication to do that... you just stick together. :)
