I'm ready to upgrade my old Dell 2001FP to something in the 24" size. I don't game so lag doesn't matter. I'm looking for good display quality, text, colors, etc.. I do some photo and video editing. It also has to be a S-IPS display or some other technology that has good viewing angles. It also has to have a matte screen. I'd like to keep the cost to around $600 or less.

Any suggestions for something that will be at least as good as my old Dell in a 24" size?

Thanks,

Mark

The Dell 2001fp was a spectacular monitor in its day, and is still a very good display. FWIW, I was in the same boat as you and bought the Dell U2410 a couple of months ago and then hooked my 2001fp up as the second monitor, replacing a cheap Acer LCD that I was using in that role.

I'm not familiar with the HP so I can't comment on how good it is, but the U2410 is quite spectacular and has a variety of cool features and gives you tons of connectivity options -- DVI, HDMI, Display Port, etc.

Hey thanks for posting! Since you have the 2001fp and the 2410 side-by-side can you tell me how they compare? If the 2410 is as good as the 2001fp then I'm good with it.

Yes, the 2410 is at least as good as the 2001fp and better, in my opinion. The 2410 seems brighter, slightly more vivid, and doesn't seem to suffer from some of the temporary image retention issues I see on my 2001fp on occasion.

Glad I am not the only person to see the image retention lately. As for the brightness, remember you are comparing a new monitor with new optics to an older one where the backlight will have worn. I had to turn up the brightness from 0% for the first time in the many years I have the 2001FP. I will have to check out the 2410 though.
