New Dilemma...R290x, 780, or SLI770's for 1080p?

So another stick got thrown in my PC plans again with the new nvidia price drops. What is honestly gonna be the better bargain for fastest frame rates at 1080p? I will be running two monitors but only gaming on the one. Only upgrade I can see monitor wise in at least the next year would be to a 1440p, but no eyefinite or surround.

Thanks

1080p? I'd get an overclocked 780 and call it a day. I don't think SLI 770s are needed for 1080p.

What I'm thinking is I'd like to get my fps high enough to take advantage of my 120hz monitor. Of course my brain is totally leading me to overkill this PC :)

Get the $499 GTX 780 unless you plan on watercooling. If you watercool, get the 290X + EK block.

I'd wait for the R9 290 and see how it performs. It is rumored to be $450 and more or less give you ~780GTX performance.

I will be using standard cooling on the gpu just a closed loop on the cpu. I think i'm actually leaning towards nvidia again after a 290x flirtation. I'm assuming the 290 will also be released with reference coolers which I wanna stay far away from. I will mostly be playing BF4 and from the reviews i've seen a 780 beats 290x at 1080p.

If you simply want to go Nvidia, then get the 780, it is a good option at it's new $500 price for sure.

But I think the forum trolls are doing a good job scaring people of the cooler if that is why you're shying away. From what I've seen, the cooler does an admirable job in quiet mode, if noise is the main issue, while still being faster than the 780 overall. And I wouldn't forget about Mantle coming for BF4, which you can only use on the AMD card.

But either way, a 780 @ $500 or a 290X @ $550, both look like good options!

Ya I'll see if anything changes in the next week like maybe some non reference 290x's being released. Yes i'm hesitant because of all the talk about the cooler, but also I'm going for a nice look for the system which I think a non reference card brings.

What CPU are you using and at what speed? This will govern what makes sense GPU wise for 120hz.

I will be buying the system in my signiture as soon as I figure out what card i'm gonna get. So a 4770K which I will be overclocking. If I go 780/290x I will probablly add another one 2-3 months down the road.

If you plan on doing two 780's, then do that. That should drive 1440p for a couple years solid.

Without a doubt, it would be great to get a pair for $1k. I've had the itch to upgrade so badly lately, but I'm going to hang on, just a little longer to see the 290, and maybe some aftermarket cards.

YESS!! HOF is a no brainer in the GTX 780 world. If Amazon wasn't charging Tax in my state you would have seen 16 left :)

Unfortunately where i'm buying all my gear (ncix canada) they don't have the hof in stock, and haven't for at least a month. I have noticed though on the Galaxy and Gigabyte cards the price has already been adjusted, but the Asus/MSI still have not. I was planning on the Asus just to match up with my mobo, and red/black color scheme. Any problems with the Asus version?

why would you say that it when it says right there on the page the 3 games are included?

Oh, I don't know if I missed it (more likely) or they added them. I just read a comment from a buyer that they couldn't get the games and didn't notice that it says you get them.

The 780 is getting rather long in the tooth and if you play BF4 its quite possibly going to get pwned by the R9 series cards.
Wait a day or two and see what R9 290 brings to the table in price/performance.

And I certainly wouldn't get....
