What are you looking for in a digital camera? compactness, resolution, zoom, control etc...?

Basically, when looking at digital cameras, there are 3 important factors: Resolution(megapixels), lens and zoom. Factors such as batteries, memory and flash are also important.

Without spending tons of time at DPReview, my instinctive choices would be Canon > Fuji > Sony > * > Casio, but I'm the DSLR type, so my opinion may not matter to you. ;)

I would have to say hands down the Canon SD500. I have this camera and it's awesome, great camera for everyday use.

My opinion would be the Fuji F1>Canon SD500>Sony>Casio

Sony gets docked for having the memory sticks.

I have read all the reviews on these three cameras. They are all very good except for the Casio. I would have to give the thumbsup to the F10 though.

Ah, yes, isn't the Fuji the one that supposedly has "great" (for a P&S) low light performance? If so, then definitely take the Fuji over the Canon.

Yes it is. Due to the use of Fuji's technology to allow for lower noise at higher iso's as opposed to what they use to do with it(upconvert the image).

They result is great low light/indoor shots

I have to say that canon generaly makes awesome cameras and lenses. i would probably go with them. as stated before the sony memorysticks get annoying.

PS: DSLR's are great if you have some extra cash;)

My vote stay's with the F10. The last one has average quality. If you are looking for a zoom camera you should look at the Canon IS S2, however it is larger than the ones you have been looking at.

The Leica lens makes for excellent photos; don't know Panasonic but I know Leica.

What made the lenses for Nikon, Leica and Canon of old, were their lenses. They were also critically sharp. Photo models hated the Nikon because it showed every imperfection, hence lens softening filters. You want sharp, get the lens, then the camera. All the extras are bonuses, not the other way around.

For us Photoshop people, we have RAW. The Sony DSC-828 has a Carl Zeiss lens and made picture taking an ease especially for Graphic work.

This camera is for specialists because some of its numerous features may not be needed by the average picture enthusiast.
Go with what is highly recommended by others. This Sony is for the few..... This is my opinion.

quality is good, low lighting is great, with image stabilization, and blah blah blah... check dpreview...

Oh yea, F10 is good but the xD card is a bit expensive, and i'm sure F10 will outperform SD500...

I was really enthused about this camera when it came on the scene, but I recall reading that its low-light performance was actually surprisingly poor. Lots of digital noise at anything above ISO 100. What supporting evidence do you have that "low lighting is great" with this camera? If it does indeed perform "great" in low light, I'd sure like to see some evidence so I can buy one with confidence. :)

Unless Sony did something drastic in the firmware recently, I have no clue why anyone would want the pain of shooting RAW with that camera. IIRC, it's sadly one of the many P&S digicams that can't "walk and chew gum at the same time" - in other words, save RAW files without locking up for the duration of writing the file to the memory card. That camera does have some virtues, but efficient shooting in RAW format is not one of them. In general, folks who are going to spend that much money and want high-quality RAW shooting, will typically look at DSLRs rather than still-fairly-limited "pimped out" P&Ses. In this case, the point is without regard, because the original poster won't be benefitted by either a "prosumer" P&S or a DSLR.

The Sony shoots jpegs and tiffs too. RAW is really for certain people who use Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign for their livelihood. If you can use it, use it. I repeat that this camera is for the few who can appreciate it. Our media school recommends it, and its good for me.

s80 is obsolete. they've replaced that line with the a510/a520 a610/a620 not at all expensive compared to the links he had..
