While I do not condone texting while driving, I see more people putting on make-up, eating, and reading (books, maps, paperwork) than texting.

I wish someone would start a website that grabs car tags along with the video evidence so those a-holes get their insurance re-evaluated. You would think the insurance industry would have this idea implemented by now.

GotchaTube, with a Gecko caught in a net for the logo.

I honestly think eating is right under DUI and driving while sleepy.

You won't stop that or drinking (e.g. coffee). Makeup, texting, talking on phone (esp. held to ear), should be illegal. I almost got sideswiped yesterday by some turd who jutted into my lane just ahead of me. I never knew they were there until I had to swerve left to avoid them (I was already in the left lane). I was too shocked to hit my horn, could only swear!

If you look at how some of those behaviors affect the brain, I think you'll find a huge difference between eating/drinking, and putting on makeup. There's not much of a cognitive process going on if you're sipping on coffee; nothing that's taking thought away from the process of driving a car. It's sort of like, "can you chew gum and walk down the sidewalk at the same time?" Of course. But, there are plenty of videos that show people can't walk and text at the same time (falling into fountains, etc.)

Eating itself no but trying to balance that sandwich on your lap so it doesn't spill /drop crumbs everywhere while taking a bite but making sure not to get anything on your car makes it hard.
