Hello all. I am a relatively experienced computer user who just now managed to convince his dad to buy a new computer, as we bought Vista Ultimate and want to experience its fullest potential. Navigating Newegg for components, I created a spread sheet here. In my signature, I also included a summary of the components I included in this computer. My budget is US$1,400. As of September, I will be a junior in high school. I am hoping that this computer will last until at least a couple years into college.

The components I chose:
  1. 1. Processor = Intel Core 2 Duo E6400
    2. Motherboard = Asus P5K Deluxe WiFi-AP
    3. RAM = Crucial Ballistix Tracer 2GB
    4. Hard Drives = 1x10K RPM WD Raptor, 2x320 GB Barracuda
    5. Optical Drives = 2xSamsung DVD-RW+DL
    6. Video Card = EVGA GeForce 8600GTS
    7. Power Supply = MSI TurboStream 600W
    8. Case = APEVIA X-CRUISER-BK ATX
    9. Case Fans = 2xMASSCOOL FD08025B1M3/4 80mm Case Fan

As AnandTech has a reputation for technical knowhow?and I know this because I have seen many a video card, processor, and other computer component review/comparison here?I was hoping for someone to look over my spreadsheet and tell me which components are missing, which components should be reduced, and which components should be upgraded. I plan to use this computer for pro media creation (Photoshop, music creation, and video editing) and gaming. The games I play are Call of Duty 2, Counter Strike Source, America?s Army, Phosphor, and Wolfenstein. One sidenote: as I already have a multitude of soundcards on my current music PC, I plan to recycle them into this new one here, so sound is not a priority.

I was also hoping to get some advice on whether I should overclock this machine. In addition, as I plan to use this computer for pro audio creation, it should be as quiet as possible. But quietness is a lower priority than performance.

Thank you all for your help and God bless! I also hope to contribute to AnandTech some more in the near future!
