That's a lot of expensive stuff on top of a q6600 (likely not overclockable) and a 8600gts.

XPS 420 does not allow OC'ing.

It is possible it could be cpu modded though (to raise 1066mhz FSB to 1333mhz FSB, 2.4Ghz to 3Ghz).

Yes, this is hot deal, especially with the extra memory, Blu-ray, BOSE speakers and monitor: that's a lot of gear for that price. It would be better if you could configure with an 8800 GT/X or 3870. Sure, you could build this for cheaper, but wouldn't get the warranty, free Anti-virus ect.

I had an XPS Gen 3 refurb a couple year's back that I sold to a friend that still runs like a champ. Plus, XPS customer service was great. Wish I had that now for my custom-builds :).

jesus christ, why on EARTH do these big retailers insist on bundling !@$% video cards with otherwise loaded systems?!????!?

IMO the 8600GT belongs with an E2140/60/80 or a 5000+, not a Q6600...

If they bundled a 3850 or an 8800GT, that would make a LOT more sense. I think they're just trying to play the stupidity card.

Unless you can't install a video card yourself, you are almost always better off upgrading it yourself. Dell usually hugely overprices high-end video card options.

Yes that is correct. I'm going to remove the Blue ray drive and upgrade to the 512 NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT.

i picked up my brother a refurb 410 for 469, it came with 2gb of ram, 250gb hd, blu ray drive, dvd drive, 8600GT. sold the processor and got him a quad core, total cost for the system was under $700 still. No monitor or speakers though, he picked upa nice 22" LCd though.

I configured an XPS on Dell's site with the same specs, it came to 2199, if i wait for a 350 off 1049+ coupon, it would bring it below 1999. I dont think its a hot deal.

I agree. $2000 plus tax is not a good deal for this system!!!

No one will spend $2g on a desktop these days, 420 is selling for $899 w/o monitor or wait till it shows up in outlet for less. Loaded 410's can be had for 700ish in outlet.

delloutlet its hit and miss, you need to check regularly, like i posted above, i got a refurb 410 loaded for 469. I have seen dual core Inspiron desktops (both the 531 and 530) on there for 199, they dont last long, but i have seen them. I am waiting for a xps 420's to start showing up on there. Be hard though for me to justify getting one as my xps 410 has a quad core in it.

Well I odered the system with the spec i listed before then when I got my order number call dell order modification dept and have them remove the junk like the $350 Blu-ray drive and the $110 TV Tuner & Video Accelerator Xcelerator.
