New Dell X1 Ultraportable released!

Notebook review
Dell link

Looks nice, especially since it's a rebadged Samsung. Since I don't really need the optical drive on my 700m, I kind of wish I had held off for this. It'll surely be a bargain once the big-dollar coupons roll around. 😀

you miss the point. it's an ultraportable. the two primary goals are reduce weight and extend battery life. as batteries get lighter you will need to cut voltage so that the smaller batteries last longer.

links/pics?

Don't need any... THe X41 and X32 use the same chassis designs they already have. These are product refreshes from IBM reflecting new Intel refreshes/speed bumps, drive size bumps, memory speed bumps, optional biometrics, etc.

X41 will be faster (and I think cheaper ) than this new Dell/Samsung design. X32 compliments the X41 design with faster processor and graphics than the X41. Note... X32 and 41 are still separate/different chassis with the X32 being the same chassis as the X31, and slightly thicker and heavier then the X41.... so 2.7 pounds vs 3.3 pounds. Both are light to me. 🙂 12 hours of battery life on the X41 with the right combined battery options.

I'm really looking forward to the X41 update as they have seemed under powered in some instances. Of course, ultraportables are not meant for power users.

Ugh. Have you used a W2? I'm not one to complain about cramped keyboards, but that one is unusable.

hm nope. i'm on a dv1000 and never really looked into ultraports when i bought mine 3 months ago. somehow my search for a tablet led me into the ultraports. been mostly webshopping. how are you experiences with the w2?

what's extra in the x32 that adds .6 pounds?

Thicker chassis... more weight. Thicker chassis = more cooling for faster processor which = more battery consumption. More battery consumption = larger and heavier battery which then brings us back to thicker chassis.

😉

One of my clients brought one back from Japan last year. The keyboard is very cramped and there is almost no travel to the keys. Its build quality is not as great as people make it out to be...I'd put it slightly better than a Dell, on par with HP or Compaq. Nice screen (not great, though), round touchpad is weird. CD drive is a bit noisy. For the price, you can do much better.
