Setting up new Dell that came with XP Pro. I noticed some sluggish response and checked Task Manager. Found the System Process hogging 80-100% of CPU. Any idea what's going on? Thanks. B

all the processes or some of them...? find the ones that are taking the most resources...post a list up..

how big is your System file in the task manager? I am running windows 2000 nt and mine takes 216 K. what about the size of the explorer.exe? i think thats the most important file.

I know for a fact someone else w/ a DELL posted about the same issue. Run MSCONFIG and kill the non-microsoft services, then go to the startup tab and disable everything.

Be sure you don't have the windows patch that maybe can slow your system down.

Here is the thread in the software forum. The patch is called 811493.
