Hello, I just got a new Dell computer at working an i been try to setup dual display, Its a Optiplex Gx280 System(I can't find this type on Dell's website) Its using Intel video card that on the mobo and it have a both a VGA and DVI. I have a Dell E173FP on the VGA and my other screen in the DVI with a converter.
Windows find both display but when I click on "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor" and click apply its unckeck the box and dose nothing.
The other monitor is always black...
Is this system unable to use dual display?

thanks for any help

well first mistake was buying a dell.

if your desktop is black then this is all it will show.
also u should click advanced or something and get into the video cards settings (the thing ur in is windows).
and u should be able to clone the displays

Well, I didn't buy it and it a big upgrade to what I had at work (P3 400mhz with 256mb of ram)

Nothing is happen on the other display, no clone...

yeah call dell. If the you get connected to an indian and get the feeling that he doesn't know what he is doing tell him you can't undertand him and they usually transferr you to the call center in the US, the support guys in the US seem to be more knowlegdable.

You have the onboard video and the DVI slot dongle, AFAIK it can not do dual screen, its one or the other.

Also I dont think that DVI port has the analog signal to be used with a converter.

Time to Buy a PCI-Express card for dual monitor.

well, I am not telling you to pop open the case, even if you even knew what was going on in there, your warranty ends the second you open it...

I work on Dell's at work, and if you aren't Dell Certified, you cannot work on a Dell pc without voiding the warranty, thanks, but I do this every day.

Gothgar: That is a load of FUD, sure if you jack something up fiddling around in the case they CAN void the warranty but I have never seen it done.

I worked as a road tech on a dell contract for over a year.

That's their fineprint, but i can tell you for a fact that they won't care... that's just their policy incase you open the computer and fvck it up and then expect them to fix/replace what you did.

Gothgar you can open the case to try and fix it your self thats why there is online guides on dell web site, the only thing is if you break something inside your computer while not on the phone with a dell tech, dell wont replace the part. And no you don't need to be dell certified ether.

GX280 link: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx280/en/ug/index.htm

If it's onboard video then you won't have vga and dvi but only vga. The only way you would have both is if you have a video card.
