New Dell 2405 FPW

BF2 was working last evening on a CRT with analog input. Got home from work and plugged in the new monitor and now when I launch BF2, I get the intro screen, then a black screen (like normal) and then I'm right back at the desktop. The game has never failed to launch like this before.

I've also tried launching the game at various other desktop resolutions to no avail. Far Cry is working fine at 1920 x 1200 (...and WOW!) Anyhow, I'm sure I'm missing something obvious here but can't seem to nail it down.

Any ideas or suggestions?

BF2 doesn't have native support for widescreen (unfortunately). There are threads containing a command line (shortcut) at widescreengamingforum and planetbattlefield that will at least get you into the game.

yup, same thing happned to me when i went from my 19" CRT to a 19" LCD at a lan party.

Sounds like you have your refresh rate set too high for the LCD in the game, the only way i found to fix this was to plug my CRT back in and change the refresh rate in the game back down to 60hz.

🙂

what i was thinking refresh rate.

I sorted it all out.

I just had to go into the BF2 folder that resides in My Documents and delete the Profiles folder, which makes the game load default video (and other) settings. After that the game loads fine.

I'm getting a widescreen display at 1600 x 1200, must be in stretch mode but it does not look distorted at all....guess I'll have to stop fragging long enough to RTFM about the display modes on this thing.

I was a bit lukewarm at first about the LCD from CRT but after several hours gaming I have to admit I'm completely blown away by this thing....

1600x1200 isn't widescreen...

Sorry. What I meant to imply was that the game was being displayed at full screenwidth (as opposed to between black borders) rather than being displayed at an actual widescreen resolution. My assumption being that the monitor is stretching the image to fill the difference.
