New Dell 2001FP received today

Anyone know where I can find tips on optimal calibration of LCD monitors, specifically with regards to brightness and contrast ratios? I know to turn on "Clear Type", but I'd like to make sure my color and contrast ratios are as optimal as I can make them without investing any additional money for professional calibration software/hardware.

My only advice is to use DVI. Brightness is personal preference. Mine is set at 30%. Contrast can't be changed using the monitor control. Red, Green, and Blue color settings are personal preference also. Mine is set at R:41, G: 46, B: 51. Set it to whatever looks best to you. Enjoy your new LCD! I had mine almost a year now. Got mine last December and still love it!

Hooked the monitor up last night when I got home. Read the documentation on the CD, which notes that you cannot adjust the contrast if using DVI (which I am). Beautiful monitor. Doesn't even look too bad interpolating to 1280 x 1024 when playing AoW: SM (the highest res the game supports). I can't wait to get my 6800GT in the next month or so, so that I can play KOTOR at 1600 x 1200 res without turning the game into a slide show (tried it with my 9800 Pro 128MB...wasn't pretty). Going to try some Morrowind in the next couple of days, too.

Thanks for the feedback. Turned the brightness down from 50 to about 40, looks great.
