...but please dont buy it if you liked the old one, its terrible.
It just feels like it wasnt playtested, doesnt feel balanced.
Ie, you get a lot of money for coming first, not much money for killing opponents, and weapons dont do a lot of damage, so killing opponents takes time. End result, its much better to just race to the front and take first. Besides, the AI doesnt use the better weapons, so you have little to worry about.
Also, races are way too short, which makes the weapon damage problem worse. The tracks are all very short, and most races are 3 laps long. If I hang out at the back the whole time, and just shoot opponents, in a good race I could destroy 3 of the 6 opponents. In the old game, I usually destroyed all of them.
You have two weapons, essentially. The first is an auto aiming weak machine gun that fires slowly at anything in front of it. It auto aims and auto fires. Then, you have an optional second weapon, which also auto aims, but requires ammunition and has to be upgraded manually. I've reached gatling gun upgrade level 2, from upgrade 0. You would think that should be powerful, right? Unleashing an entire clip of it into the back of a Vagabond, the weakest vehicle, while my weak machine gun also auto fires, will not kill that Vagabond. Even if I am driving a Dervish, the third vehicle, if that matters.
Plus I seem to always be getting caught on the scenery, far more than I remember in the old game.
This isnt a case of simple nostalgia though - Zombie Driver also has a similar vehicle combat mode, and its much more satisfying and enjoyable. They should have just ripped that out (different developer though) and released it as death rally, it really is much better.
So for those of you who are tempted by the Steam sale price and nostalgic memories, please stay away. It just isnt fun. I've played it for probably 2 hours now, and I dont feel any urge to load it up again.
