I just got a new i7 975 dirt cheap... I got it for soo cheap, I should be locked up in the DC jail.

it's not stolen.
Me and a couple friends were at the last intel retail edge event, and one friend won the i7 975 and an intel DX58S0 motherboard. The friend that won, is a very casual gamer and uses his computer mostely for internet and such.. way over kill for him. So my other friend traded a 5850 and some cash i think it was. And the first friend used the money and bought an i7 930 with it instead and some memory.

So.. a couple months pass and the second friend goes to me. "I'll sell you two 5770s for $200".. i'm like.. "OK".. i didn't even have to think hard about that one...He also asked me if i knew anyone that wanted to buy the 975.. I told him i didn't know anyone.. true statement.. it was just too rich for my blood. He wants to get the 980X. He already has 24 GIGS of ddr3.. yes.. 24 gigs.. he paid $400 for each stick.. that's rich. this was two weeks ago.

Last week I told me friend i'll have the money in a couple weeks for the graphics cards. He said ok.. he wanted to know if i knew anyone that wanted the 975.. still no. He then offered it two me for $550.. i'm like.. "hmmm" i gave it some thought... I countered with "ok... I'll give you $650 for for both the 5770s and the 975".. his response "sure"

now i had to finagel my finances around a little.. and didn't think i'd have that money til the end of the month.

I had some luck at the beginning of the week... and to make a long story short.

i now have it on my desk with the two 5770s. now the 5770s are slated already to go into one of my other boxes and it's going to spend its days crunching DNETC and collatz on the gpus. it would have been a crime to mate the 5770s with the 975...

so..

The 975 will become my new main rig and my 940 will become my secondary rig... and my itx i5-750 will be my terciary rig

I'm either going to pair it with two 5870s or two GTX480s... I've got one of each right now.. so i would just need to buy one additional graphics card.
I'm going to have the CPU and GPUs water cooled. The CPU will be OC'd, and the GPUs will keep thier stock clocks... since the gpus will be doing DC 24/7 i won't OC them. The CPU will be OC'd and doing DC 24/7 once I get a stable OC with no errors from seti@home for a week.. then i'll switch it over to my current fav (aqua).

I haven't decide on a mb yet.
but it's going to have sata6 and usb3.0

I haven't decided on memory yet... but i'm leaning towards geil or crucial... not OCZ.

I'll probably go with either the HAF932, or the Thermaltake Mozart Tx case i have (has a 240x240 radiator in it)... I'm also thinking about the HAF-X.

for power supply.. i'm thinking a 1000watt high quality psu should be enough. I think my OCZZ850 or my HX850 might not be enough.. don't know yet.

I'll probably put in an SSD for my OS, and a hybrid drive for my programs. All my storage goes in my NAS (raid1).

there will be a DVD R/W drive
A BluRay drive... i'll get a combo drive with the DVD R/W if it's cheap enough.
I don't need a bluRay writer.. cause i don't. I have no use for one, and if i had one, i wouldn't use it... so why waste the money.

and that's my story and i'm sticking to it. ^_^

so ... what does everyone think about the P6X58D-premium?
I'm thinking this might be the board i'm going with.

it's nice, but it only has 3 pci-e @x16/x8/x8. haven't looked at x58 mobos in a while, but don't some have 4 slots?

dude, I just clicked your stats. did you know that you're at 1/200th of the entire dc output of the US??? you should apply for a darpa grant or something...

Looks good dajeepster. If you want to use that 3rd pcie slot, it may be difficult to use those 1394 and usb connectors. I'm not sure I could use that 3rd slot in my antec 400 case (PSU on bottom).

A couple people on newegg reviews say you can't run on board raid with drives connected to the 6GB/sec data ports. Have to use Win7 software raid.

Check out this youtube review (guy is a bit annoying) I like the "mem Ok" button!
