His first two solo CDs were good, I might have to buy this.

FYI quackerww he does a nice studio musician turn on two tracks of Kate Bush's classic The Sensual World, "Rocket's Tail" is particularly good.

That is awesome! Hell David Gilmour really drove Pink Floyd in my opinion. I think there was some "scandal" in that he had to play a lot of Roger Waters' parts for some albums because Waters was too trashed to play.

David Gilmour's musical ability has never been questioned. The man is an absolute genius with a guitar. Unfortunately, his lyrical abilities are sorely lacking.

Waters = lyrical and conceptual brilliance (lacking in musical abilities)
Gilmour = musical genius (lacking in lyrical abilities)

I agree that Gilmour's lyrical abilities are lacking, but since this is a solo album, I suspect (hope) that this will be more instrumental in nature.

Speaking of Roxy, Gilmour also did a great job playing on Bryan Ferry's "Is Your Love Strong Enough" which originally appeared in Ridley Scott's Legend movie (Cruise & Curry).

He is extremely good in melodic guitar solos, but he doesn't seem to be a good songwriter to me.

Are you kidding? That's like saying "People don't know who Jimmy Page or Eric Clapton are , who would buy any albums with them on it?"

pink floyd is nothing w/out waters. since he left it has been crap.

AMLOR is okay (Terminal Frost is great IMHO), but The Division Bell is a good album. As good as Meddle -> WYWH, no, but still quite good.

Waters w/o the other members (Final Cut onwards) is even worse than crap.

Just picked it up today, but I don't think I'll have much time to listen to it today.

Are David Gilmour's other solo albums as good as The Division Bell?

I would say that The Division Bell is better than his solo works. I would say his self-titled solo album is better than About Face, but that's because it has my favorite song of his "There's No Way Out Of Here."
