Who?

Not surprising to see Jason Jones leaving. He would not have made a good host anyway. Best of luck to him though. I liked him, just not the right spot for him.

Doubt it's why Jones left. He has an announced project on TBS with 10 episodes ordered. That would have been in the works for a while.

Yeah.. Uhh.. who?? I don't watch tons of TV or movies, so I have literally no clue who that is.

He's a South African standup who became a corespondent on The Daily Show last year. His bits have been well done, but I'm still surprised they picked someone who's only been around a few months. I would have thought they'd elevate someone with seniority from on the show.

Goddammit I was really hoping for Tina Fey...

Was she in the consideration? She would have been fantastic. I wouldn't be shocked if they picked Trevor because of his lack of establishment meaning they don't have to pay near as much as they would someone with the recognition of Tina Fey.

Jason Jones left to work on a show at TBS. It hardly seemed abrubt, as he's working with his wife on the new show.

As for Trevor Noah, I think he'll be good. He seems (based on the handful of TDS segments he was in) to have a soft delivery and dry sense of humor, which seems like a good combination for this type of show. With the aura built up around Jon Stewart, it's probably better for the show to have a clean break and bring in an outsider.

"Very excited to welcome our next host: @Trevornoah!

What is this fad of naming people with an ampersand sign in front of their names these days? It's very strange and I think it is just yet another fad that will embarrass us in the future, like Jams and MC Hammer.

It isn't a Union, it is showBiz!
Seniority does not matter with public opinion.
Jon went 17 years, Powers that be probably feel a fresh start (read cheaper) host to go forward allows for tweaks.

So long as the essence of the show remains, I'd still watch it. Satirically bird dogging politicians the Daily Show way is entertaining. And if the viewer is also politically aware, the show's content is also humorously informational.

I think Tina Fey was a very hopeful rumor, that's all. She would have definitely killed it though.
Unsure about the new guy, but Jon Stewart was pretty much an unknown when he started and his farm system is pretty impressive
Steve Carrell
Stephen Colbert
Aasif Mandvi
John Oliver
Lewis Black
Samantha Bee
Kristen Schaal
etc

Tina Fey would have been costly. She's already high priced; and to lock her down for that kind of commitment probably would cost a lot too.

John Stewart was the Daily Show. Probably won't survive this incarnation.

I'm sure a lot of people felt that way when Stewart took over after Craig Kilborn. Hell, I know I felt that way. Boy was I ever wrong. While I don't think that Trevor Noah will be able to surpass Stewart anywhere near in the way that Stewart surpassed Kilborn, I will give him a chance to keep me interested. Hell, John Oliver was able to do it when he subbed for Stewart.

It eventually worked with Stewart because he completely changed the format. The only thing about Kilborn's show that remained after a year was the name.

Might need the same sort of overhaul to keep things going. Or not--people might riot without their Daily Show.

I don't think it will be that difficult to keep it going. It's not like Jon was writing all the jokes and the delivery probably isn't that difficult. Most of the jokes write themselves these days.

It just seems so abrupt... randomly bring him on - a couple segments... all of a sudden he is president?

I think the people that do the segments got royally fucked over (assuming they wanted to host).

I don't think most of those that do segments and were staying are ready for the host position. And Trevor Noah has experience hosting a late night show in South Africa as well as being a known standup comic around the globe. He's definitely not a nobody.

im gonna assume they knew JS would be leaving in 2015 last year when they had Jon Oliver sit in for him while he was gone for 6 months. He would have likely been the obvious replacement if he had not gotten his own gig on HBO, I's sure that was not forseen and left them in kind of a bind

My guess is they were already auditioning, that was John Oliver's test, and he failed or something... so Oliver said screw you guys I'm getting my own gig.

What I find funny is how quickly the black guy (Sorry, never got his name down) quit and went to SNL.

I'm not liking all the changes... I HATE CHANGE!!!! ARRRH!!!!

There were plenty of others that did the segments that deserved a shot IMO.

Samantha Bee
Jordan Klepper
Al Madrigal
Aasif Mandvi
Hasan Minhaj
Jessica Williams

Hate to say it's sexist, but it seems late night hosts MUST be male? Not that I'm for/against, it's just something worth notating.

Honestly though, I wish there were more shows like Bill Maher. You shouldn't talk politics without having multiple points of view. It helps to somewhat eliminate the media bias BS.

Samantha Bee - got her own show on TBS.
Jessica Williams didn't want the position.
The other 4, I don't think they'd be good for host positions.
John Oliver - I doubt he "failed". People liked him as the host, and HBO did as well, hence offering him a tv show of his own, which has turned into a success for himself.

I'm glad we don't have more shows like Bill Maher - he's an uninformed windbag when it comes to most stuff and he likes to bring on other uninformed people to 'debate'. As for bias - I don't see the big deal. It's an entertainment show on a comedy network. It isn't news.

Sadly, it qualifies more as news than just about any other "news" program.

I am morbidly interested to see how FNC reacts when they are being attacked by this guy.
