Warner Bros. has snapped up the rights to develop a "Dungeons & Dragons" movie.

Hopefully its better than the Jeremy Irons D&D movie in 2000.

What they should do, is use some of the existing material like the Forgotten Realms books. Something like the Legend of Huma could make a great film...

But, it will be marketed as a kids movie, so expect a Jar Jar Binks character(the Wayans character from the previous film), and whatever they can mangle from Conan and LotR.

Love D&D, but have no hope of ever getting a *good* D&D film.

Where does most of their money come from? The under 12 crowd? Teenagers? College students? I have no idea but I'd like to think it's a slightly older crowd than the Jar Jar Binks fans. This genre has so much potential and almost nobody can get it right. Lord of the Rings did amazingly well and Game of Thrones is doing really well but it seems like a rare thing for these kinds of movies to do a good job. They can somehow make a whole bunch of crappy spider man movies but they can't make a good D/D movie?!

Surprised how terribly that franchise has been handled, at least from this layman's perspective.

I don't have any idea how many D&D books are or aren't being still made, but back in the 90's there were a lot and more to the point a crapload of video games--many of them really good. I always thought modern technology would have allowed for some excellent movies but they never came to be.

Hmmm... My mother plays D&D, pretty sure she isn't a virgin, though giving birth to two kids is fairly solid evidence.

you were adopted and your mother is a 13 year old boy, it's the only explanation:colbert:

Yeah stereotypes aside...

There's the dice game, board games, video games, books, etc. There's a lot of money being made on the genre but movies fail at it.

Time to get a Drizzt Do'Urden movie rolling!

Now that, would make a lot of money. Plenty of Drizzt fans out there. If it had the budget I bet it would be as big as any current comic hero movie, like Spider Man or Iron Man.

There's a lot of sophisticated lore, good characters and stories out there, but WB will instead make some generic cheesy shit as they always do.

Looks like it could take a while if this lawsuit drags out: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr-esq/hasbro-sues-stop-warner-bros-522262

Solomon produced the 2000 film version of Dungeons and Dragons and is reportedly working with Warner Bros. on another Dungeons & Dragons movie. That film is based on Chainmail, a board game from Dungeons & Dragons designer Gary Gygax.
But Hasbro has also been reported to have licensed a Dungeons & Dragons reboot to Universal Studios. So the company and its Wizards of the Coast subsidiary has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Sweetpea that seeks a declaration that it owns rights to the property and an injunction to stop the planned Warner Bros. film.

They should just make them battle it out with a sword fight.
