IGN has a new preview up for Crysis, the followup game to Far Cry (though it's not a sequel).

"Crysis takes place in 2019 directly following the landfall of a "colossal asteroid" onto an island chain. North Korea (the sneaky bastards) seals off the island chain to all outside sources in order to garner any potentially beneficial research to themselves. Now, if you've been paying attention lately, North Korea and the US don't play well together. Therefore the US (the sneaky bastards) sends off a Delta Force squad to find out what's going on in the area and report back to the motherland."

there's also a new gameplay video, and impressive is an understatement. The graphics are top notch:

ugh, I hate all this "please register and pay us money to download the HD trailer" crap...

The "real-time ambient maps" were really impressive. That and the outdoor maps. I remember being super hyped before the release of HL2. It's amazing how fast and how advanced gaming has become in the last couple of years.

Gorgeous, loved FarCry. Too bad the story was poo.

I read an interview with the Crytek chief who agreed with you, saying that looking back on it, Far Cry's story was really weak and didn't make much sense. So, that's one of the things he said they are definitely changing with Crysis.

Wow, the outdoor map looks photo-realistic. I hate the fire though at the end, needs a lot more tweaking. And since this game is using DX10 technologies, it won't be released until 2K7 (when Vista is released); and I don't think it will need a tremendous amout of GPU power since DX10 offers lots of performance improvements over DX9 link

Yea, I read that too. He said the game was great right until the part where those trigen mutants start to appear. He said they were a mistake because the game turned into a straightforward shoot 'em up with no real story. I happen to agree. I enjoyed FarCry very much but the first half was clearly better than the second half. I hated those mutant things. Nice to read that they learned from that mistake and wont repeat it.

I can't wait, Farcry has the best AI bar none so far so as long as it is as good or better and combined with those graphics we are seeing crisis will kick major butt!

Wow. Just watched the 720p video and the jungle/forest/whatever scene was mind-blowing. Realistic interaction with foliage, shooting down trees...I think I'm going to have to sell a few nonvital organs to be able to play this game :D

Edit: The 720p/HD version of the video can be found here. I could also host the video myself if that site happens to go down or something...
