I'm hoping the Radeon HD 8000 series and GTX 700 series is available before Crysis 3 is released. I have my poor 6950 which probably won't be enough to play the game with everything turned to max at 1080p...

Next gen cards might not be able to do it anyway. If what they say is true about this game, then you will need at least two of the next gen cards. Even then I wouldn't expect a constant 60fps.

It looks like he's playing with a controller rather than a mouse and keyboard.

Looks good, although suspiciously similar to Crysis 2, which was not exactly the visual powerhouse expected.

I've seen some other stuff related to some new tech going into C3 though and it looks like it could deliver a real upgrade over Crysis 1/Warhead.

Now, if the gameplay is another linear console-fest....

Am I the only person who played the Crysis 3 multiplayer beta and thought the game looked like shit?

No. I have access to the alpha as well. Looks okay, nothing special and performs like total shit. It's an alpha though, so there is hopefully plenty of room for improvement/missing features.

Agreed. If the performance is a lot worse than original crysis, and the visuals are a minor upgrade with perhaps a hint of consolitis, then i'd have no choice but to label the game as a console fail.

Looked like shit, or you didn't like the art design? It was a dark level.

1. I thought it played rather well. Didn't have much lag or anything. Never locked up.
2. I played on medium low and while the art design isn't my favorite, I thought the level design was really good and overall the graphics were clearly 'nextgen'.

amazed anytime i read a comment from someone who says that crysis 2 isn't visually impressive. crysis 2 dx11 + maLDo hd 4.0 maxed out, is the apex of pc graphics currently.

people to often mistaken artistic direction with technical/graphical prowess. the former does not entail the latter.

that being said, crysis 3 looks to be both technically amazing and visually stunning.

And you'd be right. Mind you, this is just the alpha before code-side optimizations and driver optimizations are finalized, but still. The Radeon HD 7970 GHz edition comes out on top for single GPUs, and it can't even crack 30 FPS.

Anyways, this demo looked amazing. The most subtly impressive detail for me was the ripples from walking through water.

The graphics look great.

The bow is a huge disappointment though. No sights? Seriously? I have to aim a magical floating graphic crosshair? They should have taken a lesson from FarCry3.

There was also ZERO recoil while shooting that big-ass LMG. I hope that's just an alpha issue and not final.

I'm a huge Crysis fan, but I'm finding it really hard to get excited about the direction Crytek is going with it.

To be honest, I'm much more excited about Metro:Last Light at this point.

Looks great but it feels too much like Crysis 2, not enough like Crysis 1.

I preferred Crysis 1 by a lot. Cooler setting, cooler aliens... cooler story.

Crysis 2's weird sorta-aliens sorta-not infection thing... the Manhattan setting... I just didn't dig it. I found the plot to be confused, muddy...

And isn't this Prophet the guy who died in Crysis 2?

Crysis 1 was way cooler, the look of the aliens... the fact that they had actually been around on Earth before humans, and weren't aliens at all (am I remembering that right?), that really cool zero gravity spaceship of theirs... etc.

Just curious why you would?

I play a lot of PC games with controller anymore.

A lot of times I switch games over to my TV across the room and then it's a no brainer.

But sometimes I even do this when at my chair, with the monitor right in front of me.

It works well if you are just playing casually... wouldn't dream of it in CS:GO but, Far Cry 3 I've used it some.

haven't played it in DX11 mode since it appeared to simply be a patch as opposed to being built from the ground up for dx 11. then's the fact it was released much later and i'd already played the game at that point so why go back?

crysis 2 isn't crysis/warhead. you can wander around those games and enjoy it. crysis 2 is COD really. linear as hell and some choices they made annoys me to the point i don't want to play it again (forcing you to enable armour or else you can't proceed etc).

fingers crossed for Crysis 3 though

convenience? the option is always nice. i agree for online you'd be suicidal to play with a controller but for the campaign it's nice. i would have bought COD for PC if they supported the controller but they don't - only black ops does. so i've only bought them.

I agree that it looks great, but I'd criticize the seemingly 'on rails' nature of that video over things like how the weapons act.

All the aliens in the grass conveniently jump on top of old trains, even multiple times when the character was near them (and visible), and only seemed to really attack when he got the grenade launcher (scripted event). Then of course the obvious on-rails scripted train sequence.

Maybe I'm looking too much into that; but it looks kind of boring if alot of it is simply scripted sequences.

the dx11 pack was released just 2 months after the game launched, far from "much later".

the download came in at well over 2GB, so i would hardly refer to it as a simple patch or tacked on download, and it made a world of difference in game. the hi-res pack was nice, but maLDo's pack was far better and really takes the game to a new level.

why go back, you ask? i personally couldn't enjoy crysis 2 until i got a chance to play it with the aforementioned textures pack and dx11. before that, my opinion of the game was similar to yours.

playing it now with all bells and whistles turned on and no HUD command is both a visual spectacle and an immersive gaming experience that i thought i'd never get from this game, but that only occurred because i gave the game a second go after being thoroughly disappointed initially.

i say go back for the visuals alone if nothing else, plus, the game itself isn't half-bad either.

look at this post if you're interested in seeing how much of a difference dx11 plus proper textures make in this game.
