New CPU, now unstable

I just installed my new Mobile XP 2400+ processor, and the system freezes before I can get to Windows. I also installed a new DFI Infinity NFII Ultra board last week, I was running my old cpu on it until I got my water cooling kit in the mail. It ran fine until I put in the new processor. It displays it as an unknown processor, is that normal? I booted into DOS fine, but can't get to Windows normally or into safe mode. I tried to repair the installation to see if it was a software problem, but it froze in the process. I tried giving it a little more voltage, underclocking it, and even overclocking it. Could it possibly be another compnent? Any ideas what would cause this?

Thanks

Oh, and the system runs fine if I keep it in the BIOS screen, and stays around 27C on both CPU and System Temps so I'm not overheating

It might be a good idea to update the motherboard's BIOS, because it does sound like the motherboard is a bit mystified at the mobile CPU. Also, am I understanding correctly that you're trying to re-use an existing Windows installation after swapping motherboards? That sometimes works if the chipsets are similar (nForce to nForce2, for example). What was the previous motherboard?

It worked fine with the new motherboard before I swapped CPUs, but the old one was an Asus A7N8X, after I blew my second one I decided not to get another Asus

You need to make sure your new board actually supports that CPU. Some don't. Some require a bios update like mechbgon said.
