Tax time is coming up and so is my yearly bonus. Going to get a good bit from both this year and I figured why not blow a little on myself this time around.

I currently have a 3000+ (Venice-core) and an EP-9NPA+Ultra and fully intended to eventually upgrade it to a dual-core somewhere down the line. Maybe that time is now? I would probably jump on the 4400+ to get the extra cache.

I also am currently running with just a measily 1GB (2x512). Could up this to 2GB (2x1)? Tempting....

Or there's always a new hard drive because I'm constantly running out of space. 500GB just doesn't cut it any more these days!

Lastly, there's the possibility of replacing my trusty 19" CRT with a 19" or larger LCD.

So which of these items would you splurge on?

It's a tricky time at this point. I held off on my upgrades because of Socket AM2

Which is a similiar decision to the one I made by avoiding socket 754 and going 939 which i think was a good choice

more ram
unless, is the new AMD socket also meaning support for DDR2...? if so, hold off on RAM, get a HD or the LCD (or both :D)

Very true :) The investment would definitely last a longer time I suspect that any of my other options due to its future compatibility.

what do you use your computer for?
Playing strategy games, basic day-to-day tasks, some occasional video editing/conversion, and some light programming development work. A bit of everything really.

I believe it is supposed to support DDR2. I guess HD and LCD's never go out of style, do they? ;)

I'd keep the CRT because they last longer than an LCD and just upgrade the CPU.
Sounds similar to what was proposed by MercenaryForHire, but exactly the opposite :)

you cant go wrong with a monitor upgrade, lcds are very very addicting
They are nice looking, although I still prefer my 21" CRT at work to any of the LCD's we buy. I can't crank the resolution up to 1600x1200 unless I get a monster LCD that costs a small $$$.

LCD and maybe a HD afterwards.

I've got three sat on my desk at the moment and it's breaking my heart to get rid of my old faithful CRT.

There are 20' LCDs for about $600 with 1600x1200 resolution.
