Hi

I had a barton2500 normal chip and then i changed it for a mobile barton 2400

I am using an abit NF7-S rev2.00

in the manual, it has 2 methods for replacing a CPU with lower speed.

The first one is setting the current chip to its lowest speed and then replacing the chip.

This didnt work, when started the computer it was 800mhz and unkown CPU type

so i tried method 2

Which was clear CMOS.

this didnt work

I am using the computer right now and i had to set the speed for 166x 13.5

In system properties it says
Unknown CPU typ
1.8 ghz
1.00 GB of RAM

What should i do?

TIA

The mobile chips CPUID is not recognized by most socket A motherboards. Just set the FSB and multiplier manually (I recommend a heatlty overclock) and enjoy the speed.

wont i get errors because prime doesnt know what CPU it is testing?

With that CPU in my NF7-S I'd go immediately for 200MHz x 11 at 1.6V. Up the voltage a notch at a time if that proves to be unstable.

And no, your system will not crash or error out as a result of the BIOS not recognizing the CPU properly. Many many people are successfully running highly overclocked mobile XPs.

the best setting for that chjip for overall performance is going to be about 2.2-2.5 gigs i keep mine at 11 x 200 @1.35 vcore and it runs fast as heck. i sometimes oc it more for games but generly i keep it at idle 2.2 ghz and it is stable and cool 32-33 c 36 under load
if you put your multi at 15 and fsb at 166 it may post as a mobile barton mine does but at any other multi it says unknown cpu @ whatever speed

The latest BIOS for the NF7-S R2 does not add CPUID recognition for mobile XP chips. Unfortunately.

I was unable to get it to boot at 200 x 11 @ 1.4

I got it to boot at 200 x 11 at 1.525 or whatever default but when i ran prime 95 i could not do anything else at all without waiting a real long time for things to load.

I remember running prime95 before and i was still able to surf webpages smoothly.

So i went back into BIO and bumped it to 1.6 and now prime has been going for 30min and i am surfing great still.

I will let it run for a day to see what if it is good.

thx everyone for your input
