I replaced a 3000+ Newcastle with a 3000+ venice, both s754. The computer will boot up and run, but I am encountering serious problems. While CPU-Z registers that is in fact a Venice core, nothing else does. Everything still believes it is my previous core I assume, and is not picking up on the SSE3 or any other new instructions. Prime95 and Super-Pi wont run, stating that they encounter errors instantly and that there are hardware problems when they try to start.

How can I correct this CPU driver/instruction problem? Do I have to reinstall XP, I already did a repair install and it didn't help.

Please help me!! :(

I attempted to when running into trouble after putting in the Venice, so I downloaded and installed what I thought were the right drivers, but then it seemed like they were meant for opertons and X2s I think. It wasnt helping either way, so I uninstalled them, that hasn't helped either. Maybe they were the wrong drivers? I couldnt find any other that seemed right.

Is it a PSU problem? (just a guess)

Just as a long shot, try upping the voltage on the processor JUST A TAD. Just raise it like .25 volts and see if it's stable then. But there should be no reason why it shouldn't be stable at stock voltage.
