Not sure where to post this becuase its so specific, but here it is anyways. Here are some additional commands that have been discovered to make it look even prettier (found these just now while browsing the Steam forums). I haven't tried any of them out yet, but thought I would share with you guys. Please let us know if it improves image quality for you, and if it seems to lower your FPS at all:

Command #1

mp_decals "4096"

This determines the maximum number of decals visible at one time, 4096 is the max number for this command, it prevents decals from just suddenly disappearing like when too much blood gets on one wall.

Command #2

cl_ragdoll_collide "1"

This one makes the ragdolls collide with each other, so they dont' clip inside of each other. Makes body pileups look a lot better.

Command #3

cl_c4dynamiclight "1"

This one gives the C4 bomb ticking light, dynamic lighting. It makes the light on the C4 look much better.

Command #4

r_lod "-5"

This one makes it so that the models always look their best from any distance, so when you get closer they don't suddenly switch to a different mesh.

Command #5

r_decal_cullsize "0"

This one makes it so that decals don't just appear when you get close, it makes it so you can see them from any distance.

NOTE: For Command #5 you need to put it in your config and also in your cfg folder you need to open the valve.rc file in notepad and change it in there and save it.

NOTE #2: I highly recommend for all five commands to put them in your config and make sure your config is read-only so they don't get changed!

(Buddy of mine pointed me towards this post, btw)

I saw these in a post over at the steam forums (you dirty theif ;)), and have already inputted them. The only thing I've really picked up so far is the decal stay, which leaves stuff everywhere. Blood adorns walls all over the place. I've also noticed the ragdoll collide, but this is a kind of rare occurance that 2 bodies fall on each other.

EDIT: Also forgot to add that I've noticed no significant frame rate loss over all of these, as this was a concern to some in the thread at the steam forums. Of course I'm already running upwards of 70 frames a second, so I can't tell you how much, if any, my fps is impacted.

I'd recommend putting the items, if you want to use them, in autoexec.cfg and NOT config.cfg. Config.cfg gets re-parsed when the game is launched... autoexec.cfg information simply gets parsed into that file. If you make it read only you may get errors in the game.

Here's my little list so far...

- Bump mapped characters

- c0ax script

On the last one I'd recommend making your own script though, it's pretty easy. I just need a main gun and an inventory refresh hotkey, nothing big. The script I linked features more stuff.

You need to pre order HL2 to get CS:source.

ALSO don't me to steal the thread but... Does anyone else get this weird effect. When I have my AA set to 4x or 2x my FPS will run at 99 ussually but then in some spots it will jump to 49-50 and stay at that for a bit. When I set the AA to 6x which is the reccommend setting according to the game it will never dip below 80FPS and ussually be around 99 though. I have heard others say that increasing their resolution also has increased thier FPS.

Right now I just run at 1154 x 864 because thats as high as my monitor will go with 100Hz. I have everything set to high with AA at 6 x and AF at 4 or 8 I don't quite remember what I set it at last night as I was playing around alot with different settings because the 50 FPS thing was annoying me. Anyone else hear of this?

Hmmm I don't see an autoexec.cfg file anywhere in the CS:Source folder in steam... Where is it? I found the config one but not this one... Do you need to make one or what?

You need to make it yourself in notepad. It's like the old CS system bascailly.

If you make config.cfg read only you will most likely will crash the game.

Yes, HL/CS never did come with an autoexec.cfg upon clean install (don't know if CS retail did or not), you always had to make it yourself.

As for config.cfg, I have made mine read-only in steam ( for both CS 1.6 and Source) and haven't had any problems.

I think it depends on how you do it. If you use any other scripts it'll crash because it can't write to the config.cfg file. If you're only using config.cfg then it seems to work ok.

Anyway... I think the safest way is using autoexec.cfg for all custom settings and letting config.cfg handle the settings it usually handles. I guess it's six one way half dozen the next.
