Have an old 775 system I use for light gaming at work. Wanted to swap out the crappy 150w PSU so I ordered a Corsair Vs400 from the egg. Won;t work in PC. If I short the green and ground it will turn on. Put the old psu and the pc powers up. Put in the new and nada. WTF? All connectors look clean.

Electrical gremlins or the rare "just won't work together" will always be a risk with fresh PSUs, regardless of price. Not every faulty component or solder joint can be accounted for. A little load tester can find if one of the rails have suspect voltages, but a complete picture will not be available without an oscilloscope and the knowledge to use one.

Return it to Newegg and move on. If you are curious, you can buy the voltage tester to see if the voltages check out. The cheapest ones will only have LED lights, the $16 ones have LCD displays.

Odd. Its working now. After completing the install I hit the PC power switch, didnt turn on so I ignored it and started the RMA process. About a minute later the PC started. The mobo is around ten years old. A P35 system.
