I got a new stick of 512 MB PC3200C2 with a silver heat spreader and stuck it in today. I already had one with a blue heat spreader and got another for my video editing. I had my pocessor running fine at 23 * 150 mHz(3450) with my ram set on turbo setting (*2.66) so it was running at 400mHz. I installed the ram today and it was running fine until I played a shockwave and it crashed. The cas was at 2, so I put it at 2.5, which is recommended for two sticks of ram. It still crashed and I tried to run a benchmark program and it crashed. I turned my settings down to normal so it is running at 375 mHz and it works fine. I thought it was supposed to run at 400 mHz? Does it only run 400 with one stick and slower with more than one? Should I RMA the ram? I was already upset with running cas 2.5 for two sticks but now I have to run the ram 25 mHz slower.

I called the corsair 800 number and tried to get to tech support but it kept looping back to the main menu

Cliff notes:
Recieved new stick of 512MB PC3200C2 ram
Only runs stable at 375 mHz instead of 400 mHz with one stick

It works at:
Albatron PX845PE Pro II (Most recent BIOS)
CPU: 150 mHz *23 = 3451
(2 sticks)DDR speed 375; Latency 2.5, 6, 3, 3.
or (1 sitck) DDR speed 400; Latency 2, 6, 3, 3.

It fails at:
Albatron PX845PE Pro II (Most recent BIOS)
CPU: 150 mHz *23 = 3451
(2 sticks)DDR speed 400; Latency 2.5, 6, 3, 3.

I'm having a similar problem with my CorsairXMS PC3200C2 ram.... Built my new computer (see sig) and ran everything at stock (333 FSB) for a week or 2. Then tried upping the FSB to 400 and it wouldn't boot. So I tried various settings between 333 and 400 and found that up to 350 it worked great all the time, but at 366 it starting running hot (usually 50C+ all the time). Anything over 380 or so would boot into windows XP but then start generating random errors.

I know NOTHING about overclocking so I've only tried playing with the FSB... should I change my voltage or memory timings too?

I am using the retail heatsink...

i would just return it
it's not your fault that they can't meet their spec
i'm tired of this kinda stuff in the memory industry

good luck

Yup. Does it really hurt to test these things before shipping?:)

The 845pe doesn't like more than 1 stick of ram, especially for overclocking, and some boards based on the chipset are pickier than others. That doesn't excuse your problem but multiple sticks with that chipset isn't the optimal config.

i would recommend you simply rma and get the 3200LL instead. the C hasn't had a long history of successful o/cing stories behind it. you may also want to consider something like kingston hyperx or muskin. corsair is very good, but it's just those c's that have a problem...

Corsair does test all XMS memory before shipping it out. I remember looking at this Review.

Try asking the above question in Corsair's Forum and see if RamGuy can help ya
