I thought it was going to be a harder time getting it within my budget. I wish I had room for a 2nd monitor...the desk is one of those "hutch" style desks

Now if I could get a PROMO CODE that would be awesome! LOL!

Your motherboard is not compatible with Nehalem chips. You need a socket 1366 board.

In terms of recommendations it would be helpful to know what your budget is, what the computer's going to be used for, and what size your monitor is? Are you still using the 19" monitor in your sig, and do you plan to for the foreseeable future?

Like DSF said, your motherboard is not compatible. Search for a socket 1366/X58 chipset motherboard.

For the prices Newegg takes the "gifted" item price out of the item that the "gift" comes with so the overall total has the discount in it already.

For the motherboard I just built an i7 system on monday using the EVGA X58 motherboard, the $299 model, and would recommend it for EVGA's support alone. I had a ram issue which I could not solve called them up at 10:30pm first tech did not have an answer but said he would find out and call me back within the hour, 10 minutes later I received a call back from a different tech who asked if Iw as still having the ram issue I called in with and then walked me through getting the board up and running.

Ding dong me didn't realize the mobo compatibility...I switched it with this one:

GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
Item #: N82E16813128362
Return Policy: Limited Non-Refundable 30-Day Return Policy

-$10.00 Instant

$298.99
$288.99

I also noticed that I didn't have a PSU included either, so I added this one:

CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply - Retail
Item #: N82E16817139006

-$60.00 Instant
$10.00 Mail-in Rebate

$179.99
$119.99

Putting my total now slightly over my Budget of $1500 (MAX) at $1,521.50

PC will be used for gaming, video creating/burning, occasional use of CS4, and other photo/video editing software.
AT this time yes I will be using the current monitor with possibility of using dual monitor setup with a 19" Dell. Right now my setup is confined to a "hutch" desk and have no room for a 2nd or bigger monitor.

$165 shipped, still has the free game.

Depends more on the resolution, and having the 1gb means the OP will more likely be able to play games as they come out, as opposed to needing another upgrade soon.

His monitor is 1280 x 1024 max, and he said the most he would be willing to upgrade is to add a second 19" monitor.

That was my thought - future games being released.

I'd rather have a dual monitor setup then a 24"W...but who knows I may end up changing my mind down the road on that, LOL! But for now and sake of argument, yes I will be using my current monitor.

Whoever said all 19" are limited to 1280x1024? He might use his current as a second monitor while getting another for gaming etc. that has a higher supported res, either way the 1gb isn't too much more than the 512.

The difference is $60...I thought that was worth it...guess not in terms of what I'll be getting for $60 more...

But I do have to find ways to cut back if possible since I'm already over budget without even an OS.

You can "might and maybe" your way into buying anything. Fact is he has a 1280x1024 monitor, and dosen't have the funds to add a second. By the time he gets around to adding a higher res monitor who knows how out dated a 1gb 4870 will be? Might as well buy something thats more then capable of handling what your doing now, and worry about the future when it comes, cause good luck future proofing a computer.

Solid point made...if it's overkill based on my monitor - I'll take the $60 savings and add it to the OS cost. Any other cheaper mobo's I could lean towards? Is the 6GB of ram going to make much of a difference of 3GB?

650W is plenty for your PC even if you upgrade the video card later.

Unless you are married to that case, there are also less expensive options in that area.

Actually from some research the TX corsair models are manufactured by CWT while HX and some VX ones are manufactured by Seasonic. So I'm in the hunt for ones that are VX!

Not married to that case no...any suggestions?

In2Photos - noticed the case in your Sig...how do you like it? I see it's quite a bit less then the ElementS one I currently like. I like the cooling/venting on the ElementS which was pushing me towards that one.

What is the difference between the mobo you have and the one I picked? I see about a $20 difference there too.

I like the case very much. I wanted something simple and it fits that bill very well. The front fan has blue LEDs which at first I was upset about as I didn't want all the lights, but it isn't bad actually. It was easy to install all the equipment too, since everything is toolless. I still used screws though since I am anal. I added one extra fan to the top of the case and my stock i7 runs at 25C at idle with the Xigmatek cooler. And that is with the fans at about 50% so I don't even hear the PC at all. I also prefer cases that do not have a front door, but that Thermaltake looks nice. I have some pics of my build on my site if you want to see them: http://www.pbase.com/madawson/new_pc

In regards to the Mobo mine is actually about $100 cheaper than yours. I simply looked for a board that would suit my needs and MSI hasn't let me down in the past so I went with it. No issues at all so far (knock on wood). They both get about the same reviews, although the Gigabyte has more reviews than the MSI. The Gigabyte has more SATA ports (10 vs 7) and a few other differences. I couldn't justify the extra expense for some of the boards as I won't use the features.

Thanks for the indepth reply dude! I don't think there is any reason why I need 10 sata ports, ha ha. I was having a hard time justifying the expensive mobo's, so I too may lean towards that MSi then as well.
