From an engineering point of view, this puppy looks like a winner. The copper base (at least it looks like copper) should provide a generous distribution of the heat directly from the small die contact area to the large aluminum base area.
The vertical fins look very thin..... this is a good thing. The overall surface area of fins looks to be much greater than most coolers (more fins) and should provide excellent cooling.
I am not sure about the vertical fan placement. It will be difficult to evaluate this feature since all the above mentioned features will allow it to outperform other heat sinks on the market.
Nice find. Maybe it is time for me to upgrade my HS. I run around 50C idle and 55 under load.
Its just a copy of the Alpha PEP 66 heatsink. The fan doesnt look like its that powerful and is pushing air through the heatsink, not pulling it through like the alphas do. Maybe as a cheap version of an PEP 66 it maybe ok if you flip the fan around.
Looks like they're using some sort of a multiple "heat pipes" to connect the fins together, kind of like the HSF that Dell's using in my Inspiron 7500 that I took apart yesterday because of curiousity
We actually brought this heatsink back from the streets of Japan for our socket-A roundup at GamePC.com. The design of the heatsink is done quiet well, although the clip is absolutely terrible. As for beating the Alpha cooler, simply put, it doesn't, but performs quite well for it's small form factor.
Do you think I should get 2 quiet 60mm fans for my PEP66 and have them both fitted?
This 60mm sunon is SO loud!
I reckon I could have 2 fans shifting half as much air each. I'm not stoopid enough to think that this equals the same air flow, but the increased pressure should conteract some of the loss of air flow.
That could be a good design for some cases, like mine - the InWin A500. The ps fan is beside the CPU slot and sucks the hot air off it. So, if the Coolermaster mounting can be flipped so the fan is on the mobo side it will really move hot air directly out. It looks to be about $25 which is hella lot for a heatsink ... any links to US dealers?
