I just ordered a new set of parts for my computer but its giving me a headache cause it won't start. After the Windows 98 screen it would come to a black screen and it would say that there is some NDIS error and it tells me to restart windows. It has to be some stupid minor problem because it runs fine in safe mode. Could the problem lie in my Windows 98? Do I need to upgrade to XP?

P4 2.8Ghz
Abit IS7 Mobo
Corsair 1GB ram
Radeon 9800
Seagate Barracuda HD

All the rest of the hardware are from my old system.

I know you may be surprised I still have Windows 98, but I will upgrade it in the near future but for now I need it to run, so if theres a way to fix please show me, Thanks.

Usually if Win98 will run in safe mode but not normal mode, it is a driver issue. Win98 may may also be having issues with a gig of ram. Try running it with one stick of ram. If that fixes it, wait till you upgrade the os before putting the other stick back in.

98 is a pathetic operating system. don't waste your time witth 95, 98, 98SE or ME, they're all crap. There is only a few more days support for windows 98 before microsoft puts it inro the unsupported phase of the product lifecycle:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/lifecycle/desktop/consumer/default.mspx

You will notice a significant improvement if you use windows XP. Also, 98 may well not support some of the hardware features found in your new computer parts (such as 1 GIG of RAM, Radeon 9800, AGP 8X etc).

If you really must use 98, try a reinstallation of drivers and an update of the operating system.
