I have decided that I can't build a computer. It didnt work out oo great. What is a better computer. Gateway or Dell??

I would buy a Dell since both make equitable systems but Dell has superior support and service. Also, you can got to the Hot Deals forum and find great deals from Dell E.G. 10%off+5% off stackable coupon and free shipping. I just saw a 1.8ghz P4 system (no monitor) for 499$ with a 24x CD-RW+free shipping.

Gateway or Dell ? Pepsi or Coke ? AMD or Intel ?...

Both companies have really good deals, decent support and service, quality systems...

One variable : your location. Do you know people around who've had to deal with the service in your area (turnaround time for replacement, repairs, etc.)

People will tell you that Dell is better, but then you're most likely to pay extra for the Dell name and reputation...

Really all up to you ! 😉

Actually Dell is a perennial winner for best service&support among major OEMs and offers lifetime free phone support on all their systems while offering systems that if you are smart enough to take advantage of the extra rebates, free shipping, and stackable coupons are often equal to or less expensive than a comparable Gateway, So the paying extra for the name and rep is nonsense 😉

Yeah I heard from a couple of Dell customers that the support has gone to sh*t in the past 2 months. Now since Dell reputation is built on this I am sure that they will fix the problem really quickly.

Yeah, that's presuming the customer isn't a asshat that couldn't understand what tech. support told them in the first place 😛 I had a client with a Dell demension 4100 I think it was that couldn't get his SBLive reinstalled after a re-install because he lost the drivers. After scouring the net for them and not being able to get any with his cards model# because his card was a model exclusively made for Dell and Compaq(tried driverguide, google,Compaq, ect...), I had him call tech. support, who explained they don't list the driver and utility on their website because of it's large size and promptly shipped him a new driver disc out using USPS priority mail at their expense, even though the computer had been out of warranty for over a year. In 2 days the disc arrived and his sound and SBLive software were reinstalled, that's good customer support 😉

IMHO, go w/ Dell 🙂

<-- Ownes a Dell Laptop.

The reason I suggest Dell over Gateway is their customer support; everyone that has a Gateway at work tells me of the customer support that Gateway offers is subpar. Most of the time, either myself or one of my co-workers end up "fixing" the issues w/ Gateway computers. I'm not saying which company is better than the other, just offering personal insight. Hope this helps 🙂
