I just received parts for my new computer today. after about 3 hours of putting it together, i throw the power switch on and the computer does not start! i can see the motherboard light go on but it seems nothing else is starting. I'm pretty sure i plugged everything right but i don't know this is the first computer i'm building
specs are:
amd xp 1900
thermalright ax-7 hs w/ panaflo fan
abit kr7a-133r
chieftec aluminum full tower w/ 420w PSU
crucial 512mb pc2100
wd 80gb 8mb
msi gf4 ti4400
sb live audigy

10/100 NIC

i read my motherboard manual and it said to discharge some CMOS thing, i think i did that but i'm not sure. i need help!!

any beeps? take out all expansion cards. reseat the ram & video card. try booting with only the cpu, ram, & video card installed. also, check to see if ur jumper (or multiplier) settings are ok.

i just tested my LEDs. i don't think there's any flow of electricity going there. does anyone know what the problem could be?!

a few questions. does the cpu fan spin? do u hear the hd's spin up? if both those devices are getting power, but u still get no beeps or video... i would think it's the mobo. i am not exactly sure, but i thought cpu & ram & video problems will make ur mobo beep. but if u do have access to some known good ram, another video card, or by chance another cpu... swap out some parts.

sounds like the moboard is DOA.

Send it back and get another. Had the same problem with my first Epox board. Got a new one and all was fine.

Take it out of the case, set it on something non-conductive, hook up the power supply, the case speaker, and hook the power supply to the hard drive. Leave the CPU and Heatsink on but take out the ram and all the other cards and connectors.

Fire it up and see if it gives you beeps telling you the ram is bad. Add the ram and see if the beeps change, now it's telling you the video is bad.

Put it back in the case and test. add part by part and test.

If it doesn't do anything outside the box, then it's probably bad, but you could swap out the power supply just to check that, if you have one handy.
