Hello.

I set up a completely new homebuilt computer and hooked everthing up properly. When I tried to power it on, the fan went for about half a second, and then dies. Out of desperation, I unplugged the 4-pin 12-volt ATX power plug, and now the fan runs and the graphics card runs and everything, but there's no signal going to the monitor. What would be the problem here? Thanks.

Specs?

And don't run it without the ATX12V cable. If you want to run down a list of the usual stuff, try the bottom link on this page for a bunch of no-run/no-POST causes.

1gig corsair value ram (2x 512MB)
EVGA 7600GT PCIE
ASUS A8N-SLI Premium Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail SPECS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131540
2 ATA HDDs, 60 and 160GB
CDRW Drive
DVD ROM Drive
Antec Sonata II Case with 450W PSU (comes with)
AMD Athlon 64 3200+
Floppy

As far as I can see there were no problems with standoffs or spacers. Thinking about RMA-ing the Mobo. What do you all think?

Try the motherboard outside the case, laying on cardboard. Use only the bare essentials. No hard drives, no optical drives, no extra cards or stuff, just the board, one memory module in slot DIMM_B1, the video card, CPU and heatsink/fan. No keyboard, no mouse either.

Also, make sure your motherboard's EZ-Plug is hooked up (yes, even though you're not running SLI) and that your video card's PCI-Express power cable is hooked up, if it has a receptacle for one.

This bare-bones test helps establish whether the core hardware is working or not, with minimal complicating factors.

This is probably not the core problem here, but be aware that your RAM is specifically Not Approved on the Asus Qualified Vendor List for dual-channel operation with this motherboard.
