Just built a new computer w following specs:

MSI Diamond w SLIx16
AMD FX-60
EVGA 7800 GTX SLI
2GB XMS Corsair RAM DDR400
Plextor 708A DVD
X-Fi Soundblaster
Seagate Sata Drives in Raid 0

This computer beeps about 2 times/sec until windows starts then seems to run fine. All is good until intro videos and certain games are run. They are very choppy. Not sure if the videos are running off the CD/DVD, but I don't think the Far Cry loop does. When I play Far Cry it is like I am playing on the moon. It is really smooth and the graphics look great, but it plays in slow motion w/the sound being normal. Quake 4 runs without any problems on max settings and FEAR has choppy intro video, but will run fine for a while then crash. All games are up to date as are drivers.

I have a similar setup on another computer but with a Platinum MSI SLI MB and MSI 7800 GTXs, FX-53, Audigy 2ZS and 1 GB OCZ Platinum RAM that runs with no problems.

I am tempted to take the whole thing apart, reformat, and start from swapping parts with the other computer, but nothing is more frustrating than spending all that time doing that and getting the same results. Any suggestions? Any other info needed? I am totally stumped. Thanks for your help in advance.

Could be you're not getting enough power to the video card. What power supply do you have and how did you connect it to the 7800?

Before you tear it all down, try a few different video drivers first. Get Driver Cleaner Pro and d/l a few different drivers from either here or here..

Also, the power supply suggestion BadThad made would be a good thing to look into as well.

Sorry I forgot to mention the PS:

New computer with the problem has a 620W Enermax Liberty
"Old" computer has a 600W Enermax Noisetaker

I don't think the PS is causing any problems. The cards are connected with the dedicated PCI-e connectors off the PS.

I will give the driver cleaner a shot and see if that helps.

Thanks

I forgot to mention that games seem to crash or run like crap during cutscenes or videos....except for quake 4.

Continuous Beeping: Memory or video problem

Explanation: The system is producing constant beeping in no specific pattern, or a fast "ringing" sound.

Diagnosis: This is usually caused by a problem with the system memory, or possibly the video card. The memory is more likely--the system complains long and loud if it can't find any usable memory, as there is no way to even start the boot process when this is the case. The motherboard itself could also be the problem.

Award BIOS beep code cited from http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/sys/beep/award.htm

I am by no mean a noob, but I could be of some use.

When your BIOS beeps irregularly, look it up becuase it might be important. Since your computer boots up fine, I suspect that the problem is related to your video card.

1. Swap the video card from the other system. Is the problem solved?

2. If not, try swap the PSU.

Hehe, I feel like an idiot.

No, you are not an idiot. I swapped video cards and that didn't work. However....while the computer was open, I noticed that the primary card heatsink fan was spinning slower than the secondary card's fan. Maybe there is not enough power going to one vs the other or something is wrong with the mobo. I might have to try a new motherboard and see if that solves it. First I am going to try a PSU swap and see if I might have a bad power source or cable since the Liberty is a modular power supply. Anyone ever notice if there is a difference in fan speed between 2 cards in SLI?

Thanks

Well, I figured out it was a motherboard problem. Returned the motherboard and we'll see what happens next time round. How did I figure it out? First took all the components out and placed in my other computer. It ran like a champ. Next, got an identical motherboard and it was smoking fast with no oddball problems. :)
