New Computer start up

I recently installed a Biostar M7VIP Pro motherboard, with an Athlon XP 1800, into an Antec 300W case. When I power up the system, i get power for only a split second before everything goes dead. The lights on the front of the case stay on, but no power is supplied to the motherboard. Any thoughts or ideas?

Should I be using the little non-metalic washers between the case stand-offs and the motherboard? It is currently connected dirctly on the metal stand-offs.

yes, I already checked that. right now I am removing the mobo from the case, and reinstalling from the ground up. I also removed/reseated the cpu fan to make sure that was on correctly, and the chip was in correctly. This is the first time i have had this kind of problem

This is really starting to blow my mind. I completely tore everything down. Removed RAM, CPU/fan, mobo from case, checked all contacts...the installed everything from the ground up. I double checked the IDE cables were seated, RAM, and CPU/fan are properly installed. I power is still killing out a split second after going on. I think I am going to call it a night, and try again in the morning🙁

Try taking the mobo out of the case, and just putting the system together outside of the case (to make ABSOLUTELY sure that the case isn't making contact anywhere). Put it together w/o case, and then boot it before you rule out the case shorting it.
