I bought a new motherboard (ASUS A7N8X) to test with my old components because I think the old board is fried. I placed the CPU in, mounted the heatsink with AC3, put a stick of ram in and my video card, all ready to fire up. But I get no video, but more fustrating is I get no beep whatsoever. I took the video off, no beep. I took the memory and leaving the video card off, no beep. Shouldn't I be getting some beeps at the very least for giving the board power?

This is also what's happening on my old board, no beeps whatsoever.

Any ideas? Thanks

Is the board properly seated on the standoffs? What PSU? What kind of ram? What CPU?

Check the power supply and make sure you have the memory in the correct slot.

Once you plug the power connector in and turn the machine on, you should see a green or red light come on the board.

PSU: Enermex 350 Whisper
CPU: XP1800+
MEM: Infion/Samsung generic PC2100
HSF: Volcano 9
Thermal grease: OCZ Ultra.

Here's the story:

I had an ASUS A7V266-E with the above components exclude OCZ for AC3. Few days ago I was cleaning my board, after trying to reassemble it back I got a spark upon booting it up for the first time (since cleaning), so from that point on, I get no video whatsoever. The spark came from the board near the I/O area. I figured, ok my board is fried with the possibility that my CPU, RAM, Video card also fried, basically every component attached. Today a new motherboard (A7N8X), new memory (though not installed OCZ PC3500), 2600+ (though not installed). I didnt' put the board in the case, it's just sitting on it's anti-static bag on my desk with 1 stick of my generic memory, plus the 1800XP and OCZ thermal grease installed. Everything powers up, I short the pins and fan spins and all that jazz, but I get no video! ok so my 9500Pro could be fried, so I take it out, boot.. no beep. Leave video off, take memory out.. no beep.

So what gives? I should be getting beeps telling me there is no memory, no video.. but I get a damn mute trying to be cute with me.
