New computer recommendation $1200 to spend.

What components do you already have besides the video card? Display, keyboard/mouse, speakers, sound card, operating system, etc? I doubt you will have to spend that much money unless you want top of the line.

i have nothing
I mean i dont need a 400 gb harddrive. 120 will suffice or an 80
Um he has good speakers. I also dont need an audigy2. Onboard would be fine. I mean the onboard on my 8rda+ is awesome

Well he will play games sometimes but mostly listen to music talk to friends mess with his dv camera and things like that. Basically, he's the kind of kid that wcouldnt tewll the difference between 800x600 and 1024x768 in a game. Or care if things drop a little fps wise. Im giving him my 9700pro cause im getting a 6800gt

Also, he really doesnt need a huge hd like 250gb. 120gb would suffice. I guess something with upgradability would be good. An after market hs should go on there cause i might oc it it a little but most likely keep it at stock

Your post doesn't even make sense.

Is it for you, or is it for your brother?

Do you have nothing, or are you already starting off with a 9700 Pro?

$399: eVGA GeForce 6800 GT
$211: Athlon 64 3000+
$29.99: Silent Boost K8
$99.00: Epox nForce3 250Gb
$94.99: 160GB Hitachi 7K250, 8MB, 3-year
$164: 2 x 512MB Corsair PC3200 CL2.5
$78.99: NEC 2510A DVD burner
$76 + $15: Antec SLK3700-BQE

$1,167.97 delivered

You could pay the extra $31 for an MSI K8N Neo Platinum, but I'd rather have the Epox board unless you can actually make use of the better GB ethernet on the MSI.

Although, if you don't have a really good monitor, I'd at least get a 19" Diamondtron and bump the rest of the system down to a Mobile Athlon o/c on a Shuttle AN35N-Ultra with maybe a regular GF 6800.
