I just put together my new computer and I'm having a major problem. When I turn it on all the fans begin to spin except for the cpu fan and the fan on my video card. I checked all the connections several times, but the same thing keeps happening. I would assume this was a dead mobo, but the fan on the chipset spins and the leds which indicate if the mobo has power light up. I haven't left it on for more than a couple of seconds because I'm afraid of frying my cpu so I really don't know if there is any video. Here are my system specs.
Abit KR7A
AMD 1700+ xp
2x256 pc2100
geforce3 ti500
sb audigy
linksys 10/100
IBM 60gxp 60gb
Toshiba DVD-ROM
Lite On 24x cdrw
Enlight 7237 case
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Good call on not leaving it on in fear of frying your CPU. I remember reading a report up at Toms Hardware where they tested CPUs to see how long they'd go without a heat sink... the P4's never burned out, merely slowed down. P3's crashed but didn't burn out. AMD Thunderbirds fried within seconds.
check your power supply, does it have the 12v rail?
most fans run off of the 12 volt side.
have you tested the fans and video card on another computer?
good luck
I agree with foofoo. Check the power supply first. If that's not the problem, go with veryape's suggestion. I tried to put a system together for my friend using the Abit KG7 motherboard. I had the same problem you had, only with random start ups. I brought it back to the shop, and the guy changed the fan header, and got it to work. Hope this helps.
Perhaps the fan headers don´t have enough power to supply so many fans... Use some 3pin->4pin adapters and connect your fans direktly to your powersupply. !!!BUT: Some Abit mbs have a securityfunction so that they just work when the fan1 is connected!!!
